Can't believe my time in Valencia is over- where did the last 5 months go?! So.. I have arrived in Nice... here is my new apartment!
I'd be lying if I said it was easy finding a flat in Nice! Towards the end of last term I was worrying that I still hadn't found a flat. After spending hours looking online, I was really struggling to find anywhere at all, not alone anywhere nice! So, eventually I found somewhere online, which seemed ok, and had two bedrooms free (as I was looking for my friend Sian too.) So, we decided to go ahead and reserve the rooms by paying a reservation fee. However, over Christmas, Mum and I decided to come to Nice for a few days to have a look around and also to go and see the flat. When we arrived at the flat it was awful....won't bother explaining why, but believe me I couldn't have lived there! and the location was not as central as we first thought. So, we then had two days to try and find something else! We went into every estate agent in Nice, spent all evening online looking on various websites, and just couldn't find anything suitable! Finally we found an estate agent who had something which they hadn't even advertised yet, which was perfect! For the same price as the initial flat we looked at, we couldn't believe what we had found! It is located right in the centre of Nice, walking distance to the shops, restaurants, bars, clubs, beach and right next to the bus stop for Uni. It is a beautiful 2 bed apartment and we were so lucky to come across it!
My advice would be not to rush into anything and commit without viewing somewhere! Lesson learnt! Also I really recommend living in the centre and not by the university. We spend most days doing things in the centre, and taxis are hard to find and extremely expensive if you can't walk places. Even if you have to stay in a hostel a few days whilst you view flats, it is definitely worth it. Popular websites are apartager.com, erasmusu.com and leboncoin.fr Around 500 euros including bills is a decent price to pay in Nice, you won't find much cheaper. We also looked at a lovely flat by uni, but luckily had friends here already who correctly advised us that location is very important, and we would regret living out of the centre- they were right! We are thrilled with our flat, here are some pics:
