I am studying at the Universitat de Valencia. There are three campuses; Blasco Ibanez, Burjassot (which I have never seen- it's maths and sciences I think!) and Tarongers. I am based at Blasco Ibanez and the majority of my classes are in the Facultat de Filologia, Traducció i Comunicacio. The university is one of Spain's leading institutions and is also regarded as the top university in Spain for Erasmus. You have to be prepared for the differences between Spanish and English universities: You are not spoon fed; for example, you must choose your modules online and work out your own timetable to avoid clashes. In the majority of classes, the teachers do not know the pupils' names and in general the university is very slow with administration etc! However, I do find most the lecturers very friendly and welcoming and have not noticed any problems with organisation which I was warned about! I have also noticed that the majority of students all live nearby and simply go to the university nearest home, unlike England, where students want to move away from home and try to get into the best university possible. Also in Spain the fees are around 900 euros a year, and there is no such thing as a student loan or UCAS. Whilst on the subject of university, I recently visited the original university which, after being destructed during the War of Independence, has been rebuilt in the neoclassical style. Below are some pics of my faculty, a few of the medicine faculty (just because I like it,) the Tarongers Campus (which is very close to our flat) and some pictures of the historic University buildings.
