I have been waiting to try the traditional Valencian 'Horchata' drink and 'Fartons,' and one of my spanish friends recommended a great place to try them. With beautiful painted tiles of traditional scenes, Horchateria Santa Catalina is the perfect place to go! Horchata is made form tiger nuts, (grown locally in Valencia) water and sugar. It has a milky texture and is very sweet, but nice in small amounts! With this you have a farton, which is a spongy sweet glazed with sugar (almost like a donut texture) which is to dip in the Horchata! Perfect as an alternative to a morning coffee break! At the Horchateria you can also have the traditionally Spanish 'churros,' where you have a cup of warm chocolate liquid, accompanied with fried dough pastry snacks- delicious, but too sickly for me! I LOVE this little place, full of Valencian character situated in the Plaza de la Reina. (Also check out the Horchateria El Siglo which is directly opposite, pretty much the same.)
